Scarf #13 March 31, 2011

I love the rich color of this scarf (Red Heart Soft - Color Teal 9518) but as I expected with a soft yarn it was pretty thin.  I used the pattern #15 from the book "101 Crochet Stitches" by Jean Leinhauser (ISBN: 0-88195-693-7) and started with a beginning chain of 34 (multiple of 8 + 2).  If I was going to use a regular worsted weight yarn, I would probably start with a beginning chain of 26 for a scarf.

Scarf #12 March 30, 2011

These two  scarves were crocheted using the "Colour Waves Reversible Scarf" pattern designed by Sanhita Kar and which can be found here.  One is done in Red Heart Claret and Red Heart Lipstick and the other is done in Red Heart Blue and Red Heart Turqua.  You can more clearly see the reversible effect in the Blue/Turqua one.  I created one big fringe at the ends.

Scarf #11 March 29, 2011

Not happy with this one, not because of the pattern but because of the yarn.  I used Lion Brand Jiffy color "Purple Spray".  Although it is a beautiful color, I had to use two skeins of the yarn to finish the scarf and, although the two skeins had the same dye lot, there were more of the white thin thread in the second skein.  ARGHH!!!  Needless to say, no more scarves will be made with Jiffy.  I used Kate's V-Stitch scarf pattern (which I love) and which can be found here.

Scarf #10 March 28, 2011

This pattern is  the Jacob's Ladder Scarf designed by Sandie Petit and which can be found here.  Sandy also has a video on her blog which is wonderfully done.  Instead of crocheting 11 sections (6 of one color - 10 dc rows each; 5 of another color - 10 dc rows each), I crocheted 5 sections of 22 rows (I don't like weaving in ends!)
This particular scarf was done in Red Heart Soft Navy and Red Heart Gold.

Scarf #9 March 27, 2011

This is a great pattern designed by Vanessa Hailey called "Waves Scarf". The pattern can be found here.   I used Red Heart colors Dark Plum and RH light plum.  I made the scarf a little longer than called for, starting with a beginning chain of 204.  This is a pattern I will be using again, that's for sure!

Scarf #8 March 25, 2011

I made this scarf using regular double crochet worked lengthwise with a starting chain of 200.  I worked 7 dc rows with a finishing row of slip stitches.  The color I used was Red Heart "Denim Stripe".

Scarf #7 March 24, 2011

I didn't get this one posted yesterday, so I will post two today.

This scarf is done with Red Heart color "Shocking Pink" and I used pattern #13 from the book "101 Crochet Stitches" by  Jean Leinhauser (ISBN: 0-88195-693-7).  I started with a beginning chain of 22 which made the scarf 5" wide.

Scarf #6 March 23, 2011

This scarf and hat were done with Red Heart Buff Fleck and the scarf is 7" wide (started with chain 25).  The scarf and hat were both crocheted with single crochet.

I have tried several beanie hat patterns to use but the one I like the best is called "Teresa's Beanie" and can be found here.

Scarf #5 March 22, 2011

These scarves were crocheted using the pattern at the Red Heart web site and called "Special Olympics Rib Crochet Striped Scarf" (Pattern LW2368).  The one on the left was crocheted using Red Heart color Claret, and the one on the right was crocheted using RH Blue and RH Turqua with a color change after each row.

Rather than weave in all of those tails, I tied and trimmed the tails to create one big fringe.

Scarf #4 March 21, 2011

I really love the black/white color combination in this one (Red Heart - Color Zebra), but I thought this yarn was very wimpy.  I really prefer a little more substance.  My second mistake was to crochet this scarf using double crochet in back loops.  With the quality of this yarn, I should have used sc or hdc to make it a little more sturdy.  Anyway, this scarf is worked width-wise with dc in back loops only with a starting chain 25, which produced a 7" wide scarf.  It is very soft so I made it extra long so that it could wrap around the neck more than once.

Scarf #3 March 20, 2011

Today's scarf is from a free pattern provided by the Red Heart Website "Knit and Crochet Special Olympics Scarves".  The yarn I used is Red Heart's "Orchid".  This is a very simple pattern which worked up very quickly.  This particular scarf is only 4 1/2" wide and 50" long, so it would be suitable for a child.
I usually try to make scarves at least 5" wide and 60" long for adults.

Have a great crochet day!

Scarf #2 March 19, 2011

This is a really beautiful pattern created by Vanessa Hailey called the Clamshell Scarf.  I used Caron Azure (Color 523).  It is a very soft yarn, but not very "stretchy".  Thank you, Vanessa, for such a great scarf pattern.  I think this one should be done in solid colors to show the detail of the stitch.

Scarf #1 March 18, 2011

I really like the way this cap and scarf came out, especially because of the beautiful yarn color.  It is Red Heart "Lipstick" and it was a joy to work with.  This is a simple sc in back loops worked along width (approximately 7 inches, beginning chain 25).

Will begin posting scarves very soon!

Due to technical issues (digital camera!), I will not be able to start posting the daily scarf pictures/patterns for a few days.

In the meantime...keep the people of Japan in your thoughts and, if possible, donate to the relief effort.  A good place to look for organizations working in Japan who need your help is CNN/Impact http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/impact.your.world/?hpt=T1.

Keep those hooks and needles humming!
