A chronicle of the scarves and hats I have crocheted along with links to the patterns or other resources I used. These scarves and hats will go to the wonderful charities I support. This blog is dedicated to my grandmother, Bess Allison (Mama Bess), who taught me to crochet, and to my father, Bill Bishop, both of whom have passed on. I also dedicate this site to my mother, Jeanette Bishop, who has always been such an inspiration to me in so many ways. I love you all so much.

Scarf #23 April 26, 2011
I crocheted this scarf using Red Heart Black Fleck (which seems to be a bit thicker than the other RH fleck yarns). I used pattern #95 in the book "101 Crochet Stitches" by Jean Leinhauser. The pattern is worked width-wise with a multiple of 6 + 2, and I started with a beginning chain of 20.

Scarf #22 April 23, 2011
Here is one of the scarves I crocheted for the Special Olympics, which I unfortunately did not send on time. :(
The colors are Red Heart Blue and Red Heart Turqua and I used the Zipper Scarf pattern designed by Vanessa Hailey which can be found here. I added a couple of extra rows on each side to make it 6" wide.

I used the Box Stitch Scarf pattern (designed by Vanessa Hailey) to crochet this scarf. This is a great pattern and can be found here. The color/yarn I used was Red Heart "Real Teal". I am really pleased with this one.

My First Attempt at Knitting a real item!
After many, many fits and starts, I have some rows completed for a knitted scarf!!! I'm very excited! Thank goodness for Youtube and a video that showed me how to cast on. I first tried to do it from a book very unsuccessfully. Once I got the hang of casting on and learning the knit and purl stitches, I tried my hand with the stockinette stitch (one row of knit, one row of purl) but it was curling rather badly so I ripped it out. I found out later that it is supposed to do that. LOL Perfect for a hat, but not a scarf, I guess. Anyway, these rows are done with K2, P2, beginning and ending with K2. I'm very proud of it even though it's definitely not perfect. I found that knitting is pretty forgiving with tension, but how to hold the yarn and trying to get my stitches consistent are my biggest challenges right now.
Scarf #19 April 19, 2011
I used the Bergamot Scarf Pattern found at the Lion Brand web site (pattern link). The colors I used were Red Heart Medium Sage and Red Heart Aspen Print.

Scarf #18 April 6, 2011
I can't be sure if this pattern is copyrighted somewhere on the vast wide web, but I worked this scarf up as follows:
With a beginning chain of 26, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch, skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, dc in each of next 3 chains to the end. Ch 2, turn. ROW 2 onward: dc in next 2 st, sk 2 st, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 st, dc in each of the next 3 st etc. to the end; ch 2, turn. Repeat Row 2 until desired length.
I used Red Heart Bright Yellow.

Scarf #16 April 4, 2011
This is a great pattern designed by Sandi Marshall called "Slanted Vs and Ridges Crocheted Scarf" which can be found here. I used Red Heart color Grey Heather and started with a beginning chain of 210, which made the scarf approximately 60 inches long. Thanks, Sandi, for such a nice scarf pattern!

Scarf #15 April 3, 2010
I did this scarf with Paton's Canadiana yarn color Medium Currant (10444). It is a beautiful yarn, but seemed to me to be more of a sport weight than a worsted. The pattern I used was #17 from the "101 Crochet Stitches" book by Jean Leinhauser and I started with a beginning chain of 28 (multiple of 8 + 4).

I used Red Heart color Green Fleck (4361) to crochet this scarf using Kate's V-Stitch Scarf pattern. I started with a beginning chain of 27 and it is worked by width (approx 6").
